The
Oncura Story
On July 1, 2003, a merger between two innovative
leaders in prostate cancer treatments set the standard
for minimally invasive options. The merger between
Amersham Health (now GE Healthcare)–Therapy
Business, the leader in brachytherapy and Galil
Medical’s Urology Business, the innovator
in cryotherapy procedures was finalized. This formed
a new company combining both our people and products
enabling us to champion advances in minimally invasive
prostate-cancer treatments. This new company is Oncura.
Oncura has a separate and distinct
identity from its parent companies and is unique in
its ability to offer prostate cancer specialists the
two leading minimally invasive treatment options for
prostate cancer – brachytherapy
and cryotherapy.
Having both options in our product portfolio enables
us to better meet physicians'
and patients'
needs.
Our goal is to champion the appropriate use of brachytherapy
and cryotherapy as the treatments of choice for prostate
cancer. Brachytherapy has long-term data demonstrating
clinical efficacy in treating early stage prostate
cancer, while cryotherapy is a suitable minimally
invasive treatment option for later-stage or radiation-failure
patients. In addition, Oncura has
the ability to offer cryotherapy as a minimally invasive
option for urologists treating kidney
cancer.
Oncura’s vision is to lead the
market by providing minimally invasive prostate cancer
treatment options and to expand our portfolio to include
additional products along the prostate disease management
continuum.
Forming Oncura exemplifies our ongoing
commitment to innovations in minimally invasive prostate
and kidney cancer care for patients and physicians.
